The MTV Video Music Awards will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this Sunday (August 25) so I’ve decided to look back throughout the decades to recap one of music’s wildest award shows out there.
From Lady Gaga’s meat dress to Britney Spears breakout “Oops…” performance, there’s a lot that has happened over the last 30 years. Let’s take a look back at some of the craziest OMG moments, appearances and performances in MTV VMA history!
15. Krist Novoselic Gets Hit With His Bass During Nirvana performance (1992)
During the band’s performance of “Lithium,” Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic thought it was a good idea to throw his bass up in the air. Gravity wasn’t on his side when the guitar landed right on his head. Ouch!
14. Rage Against The Machine’s Tim Commerford Climbs On Scaffolding (2000)
RATM’s bassist Tim Commerford was so pissed that his band lost the Best Rock Video to Limp Bizit, that he started to climb on the stage’s scaffolding until security had to get him down.
13. Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” Clone Performance (2000)
This performance was pretty epic, as a sea of Slim Shady clones (with peroxide blonde hair, obviously) gathered inside the VMA Radio City Music Hall venue!
12. Courtney Love Ambushing Madonna’s Interview (1995)
A drunk Courtney Love thought it was a good idea to intrude on Madonna’s VMA interview, which the Queen of Pop was clearly not too pleased about. Love even throws her makeup compact to try to get her attention!
11. Madonna’s Glamourous “Vogue” Performance (1990)
Madonna’s Marie Antoinette-inspired “Vogue” performance was definitely one for the books! It was over-the-top, super-animated and solidified her as the reigning Queen of Pop. Bow down!

When Madonna announced a few months ago that she was going to release her 12th studio album, I (among many others) were estatic and anticipating the comeback of the pop queen. While I expected her to return to the sound of her pop mastermix that was 2005’s Confessions on a Dancefloor, I was left with a dry aftertaste once MDNA dropped on March 23. It seems like I wasn’t the only one not buying it – MNDA scored the biggest second-week chart drop in history.
The album opens up with the Benny Benassi-produced “Girl Gone Wild” which immediately gives me Confessions vibe with the speed turned up. It is electro-dance perfection with traditional four-on-the-floor influence that will be spun by many Miami and Ibiza DJs.
Following is the dangerous stunner “Gang Bang”. The German Industrial-influenced track oozes sex with the femme fatale seething lyrical venom meant for her ex-husband:
“I thought it was you and I loved you the most,
but I was just keeping my enemies close.”
While the jolt of dubstep in the bridge is unneeded and off-putting, it is one of the more solid tracks on MDNA.
“Turn Up The Radio” is classic Madonna. It has a refreshing late ’80’s/mid-90’s vibe that separates itself from all the current wannabee dance fluff that’s out right now. It makes you feel good, which is what Madonna’s music is all about.
The first single off MDNA, “Give Me All Your Luvin” still sounds like a cry to stay relevant with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A, who were both uneeded features. Madonna could have definitely held her own on this track.
The album shows its first sign of weakness with the track “Superstar”. The lyrics are dumbed down and does not reflect Madonna’s 53-year-old mature “womanness”. Then the random and unnecessary dubstep breakdown comes in…

Madonna brought it back to her notorious “Erotica” days for her newest music video “Girl Gone Wild” off her upcoming album MDNA.
The video features some incredibly sexy models and a super femme fatale in Madonna. Directed by famed fashion photographers Mert + Marcus, the video is also ultra-glamorous and provocative.

Look out for MDNA dropping this Friday, March 23!

Pop queen Madonna has just released her second single today in anticipation for her upcoming album MDNA, dropping on March 26.
The track fully embodies its title, with a synth-heavy rhythm and basic dancefloor-ready lyrics.
I was really hoping for a Confessions on a Dance Floor sequel, but I don’t think that will happen.

After her massive performance at Sunday’s Super Bowl, the Queen of Pop plans to continue taking the world by storm by announcing a 2012-13 world tour!
The last time Madonna hit the stage was for her “Sticky and Sweet” tour in 2009 and this year’s tour plans to go beyond with added dates in South America and Australia (a first for Madonna after 20 years of not performing in the continents).
Check out the trailer for the North American leg of the tour below:

Madonna’s highly anticipated video for her new single “Give Me All Your Luvin'” is here!
The video, featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A, is very 80s-camp with its group of cheerleaders and girly finesse. Plus, the Queen of Pop looks as sexy as ever!
As for the actual song, it needs to grow on me. The need for guest artists was not necessary for this song at all.
Look out for MDNA to drop on March 26!
