Fashion Bite: Best Dressed At The Met Gala

May 7, 2013 § Leave a comment

Punk was the theme at last night’s Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Not surprisingly, the many celebrities and fashion elite in attendance did not embrace the rocker style. Fortunately, there were a few people who braved the punk theme and truly brought their fashion A-game.

Fashion Bite: Beyoncé Transforms Into A Summer Goddess In New H&M Campaign

With her fifth album dropping any day now, Beyoncé is in full promo effect! Her latest comes from a collaboration with mega-retailer H&M.

The singer has teamed up with H&M for their summer campaign and will be featured in print ad campaigns as well as commercials, according to Fashionista.com. She has also recorded a new track “Standing on the Sun” specifically for the commercial.

The campaign, shot in the Bahamas, is very tropical and elegant. Beyoncé put a hand in the design work as well, which will include bikinis, bodycon dresses, sun dresses and more.

“I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun and affordable fashion,” Beyoncé said in a release. “I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind. It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial.”

Look out for the collection coming soon!

New York Fall ’13 Fashion Week: My Top 4

February 22, 2013 § 1 Comment

This month marked the beginning of stressed out editors, interns steaming sample dresses and everyone trying to catch the Instagram-approved shot of the runway. That’s right, fashion month is upon us once again!

February 7 was the start of New York Fashion Week, what I call the weakest week of the four – albeit the most sellable. But there were a handful of Fall/Winter 2013 collections that I thought were quite unique and internationally appealing.

Check out my top 4 picks from NYFW below:

4. Cushnie et Ochs

CO 1

CO 2

CO 3

I’ve been keeping my eye on this young label for a few seasons now, and Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs of Cushnie et Ochs presented a refreshingly cheeky collection for the Fall season. The show opened with a clinical white structured tank and flip skirt, a great start of a well-tailored and downright sexy collection. From the thigh-high slits, swingy skirts and a standout mint-c0lored vinyl secretary dress, the collection combined the sexy librarian and flirty schoolgirl into looks that injected some playfulness that NYFW was lacking.

 3. Diesel Black Gold

Diesel 1

Diesel 2

Diesel 3

Being a fan of the classic Rock n’ Roll look, I was excited to see it interpreted in a modern way that was so downtown New York. I loved the play on texture: embossed leather, gunmetal studs on the jackets and resin-treated wool pants. The spark of the badass vibe that Diesel’s collection had was appreciated. People who usually associate Diesel with the mall version, which is more suited to guidos, will now see the label in a more high-end lens. There is no doubt the items will sell quickly – every editor will be coveting that perfect leather jacket.

Fashion Bite: Agyness Deyn Makes Comeback in Interview Magazine

January 17, 2013 § Leave a comment

After years without being in the fashion spotlight, Agyness Deyn has made a return to the industry. Deyn, who was once a sought-out “It Girl”, graces the pages of the February issue of Interview magazine.

Shot by Craig McDean, the rose-tinted photoshoot is candid, seductive and shows why Deyn has always been a coveted model.

In the article the recently-married Deyn talked about her return to modeling: “When I started modeling, I didn’t have a fucking clue what I was doing. Actually, I still don’t know what I’m doing while modeling. But at the beginning, it was like, ‘Oh, god, is this right? Is it not?’ So I’m kind of going through that again, but I think it’s a discovery, which is fun,” she said.
