Music Bite: Black Keys, Fun., Mumford & Sons Win Big At 2013 Grammys

February 11, 2013 § 1 Comment

Last night’s 55th annual Grammys was filled with tons of surprises and solid performances! The biggest winners of the night included the usual faces like the Black Keys (with four Grammys including “Best Rock Album” and Mumford & Sons (winning the major “Album of the Year”). The two underdogs of the night were fun. for “Best New Artist” and  Frank Ocean – who now has two brand new Grammys under his belt for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” for Channel Orange and “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” for The Throne’s “No Church in the Wild”.

But the night truly belonged to Justin Timberlake and his spectacular comeback performance of a retrofied “Suit & Tie” with Jay-Z, along with his new track “Pusher Lover Girl”.

Another strong performance came from Rihanna and her stripped-down duet with Mikky Ekko for “Stay”. The songstress later joined Bruno Mars, Sting, Damian Marley and Ziggy Marley for a short-lived tribute to the reggae legend Bob Marley. Mars began the anticipated tribute with his own song “Locked Out of Heaven”, following Sting’s rendition of his class “Walking on the Moon”. The tribute ended with all five performers taking turns singing Marley’s “Could You Be Loved”.

Damian Marley started 2012 off strong with “Affairs of the Heart”, and now the Dancehall artist released the video for his second single “Set Up Shop.”

The conscious deejay dedicates this track and video to the struggling ghetto youths trying to make it.

Listen Here: Damian Marley & Skrillex – “Make It Bun Dem”

Dubstep (which originated in the UK) is based on Jamaican dub, so it comes as no surprise to hear a collaboration track from Grammy-winning US dubstep producer Skrillex and Grammy-winning Dancehall artist Damian Marley!

The track titled, “Make It Bun Dem”, is straight Dancehall with subtle hints of dubstep effects. The outcome is killer; I hope this will make way for more dubstep/dancehall collaborations.
