New Video: Katy B – “5AM”

September 30, 2013 § 1 Comment

Katy B has released a video for her slinky new single “5AM”! The clip shows the singer getting entranced whilst at a secret masquerade party (or maybe it’s a huge orgy party? Who knows). It definitely gives off an Eyes Wide Shut vibe.

“The Record Keeps On Spinnin'” – A Parisian Mini-Documentary

During my studies at the American University in Paris, I took a film-making class that I fell in love with! For my final project, I created a mini-documentary highlighting various record stores in Paris. I talked to owners to get their take on the current music industry, as well as their thoughts on the death or revival of vinyl records today. It’s titled “The Record Keeps On Spinnin'” and I’m very proud of it!

Kings of Leon – Mechanical Bull: Album Review

September 30, 2013 § Leave a comment

Kings of Leon‘s latest record Mechanical Bull is a big landmark for the Tennessee boys – it is their sixth album and it also marks their 10th year in the music industry since 2003’s Youth And Yound ManhoodMechanical Bull – released on September 24 – definitely shows the band’s maturity. Long gone are the days of drunken fits and misbehavior, the band is now married and focused on becoming one of this generation’s rock greats.

The album kicks off with “Supersoaker,” which immediately draws back to their original and very missed homegrown country sound – think a more grown-up Aha Shake Heartbreak. Caleb’s voice is the strongest its ever been while still maintaining that gravely emotion that we’ve all come to love, and it adds perfect to the foot stomping, clanky melody. Following is “Rock City” – an ’80’s glam rock stunner with a guitar riff that is kind of Guns N’ Roses-esque.

“Don’t Matter” is the boys’ take on Muse mixed with The Stooges; it’s very punkish complete with a sickening guitar riff from Matthew as well as raw lyrics: “I can fuck or I can fight, it don’t matter to me.”  Yet “Beautiful War,” an incredibly sappy country tune, is slightly snooze-worthy: “Bite your tongue, don’t let us end here/ Everybody’s been here at least once before/ We’ve been here more.” Keep reading!

Pusha T is ready to take over the rap game with a vengeance as his debut album My Name Is My Name‘s release date draws near. His latest video for “King Push” is everything we’ve come to love about the rapper – it’s unruly, raw and slightly terrifying and crazy talented. Not to mention the track is produced by none other than Joaquin Phoenix!

New Video: Banks – “This Is What It Feels Like”

BANKS, music’s latest artist to keep on your radar, has released a sexy new video for her song “This Is What It Feels Like.” The Lil Silva and Jamie Woon-produced track gets a sensually moody visual, where the singer finds herself stuck in the house on a rainy day – but she doesn’t seem to mind.

Watch it below:

BANKS’ latest London EP is out now (which features “This Is What It Feels Like” and my current favorite “Waiting Game”), and the singer is currently on tour with The Weeknd.

New Video: Charli XCX – “SuperLove”

Charli XCX takes over a hidden Tokyo nightclub in her new video for “SuperLove.” Off her forthcoming sophomore album, the video is vibrantly colorful, flirty and awesomely dizzying (there’s robots!) – which pretty much sums up the song itself (it’s such a solid pop tune).

The video for “SuperLove” is SuperKawaii, SuperPop, SuperFun and superCharli!
