This weekend celebrates the 237th birthday of America, so what better way to ring in the 4th of July weekend than with the National Anthem? Today’s video throwback is a classic one, digging way back into 1969!

At that year’s Woodstock Festival, rock legend Jimi Hendrix made music history with his electric guitar-laden version of the “Star Spangled Banner.” The performance (his response to the controversial Vietnam War during that time) was so cool, so psychedelic, so badass, so political and so completely American.
