Music Bite: Adele Wins Big At 2012 Grammys
February 13, 2012 § 4 Comments
Adele’s throat surgery proved not to be a setback to the young singer as she brought home all six of her Grammy nominations, including Record and Song of the Year for “Rolling in the Deep” and Album of the Year for the illustrious 21.
While everyone was excited for Adele’s accomplishments, the night was also mournful as celebrities dedicated the night to the late Whitney Houston. Host LL Cool J opened with a respectful prayer for the legend and Jennifer Hudson performed a beautifully honest rendition of Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” after the “In Memorium” section of the awards ceremony.
Performance highlights included a refreshing and bold performance from Adele with “Rolling in the Deep”, which the audience soaked up giving her a standing ovation. Bruno Mars also gave a brilliant performance of “Runaway Baby” that was influenced by the greats James Brown and Sammy Davis Jr.
Rihanna sung her chart-topping hit “We Found Love” and had a brief duet with Coldplay for “Princess of China” before the group went into an iffy performance of “Paradise”.
Nicki Minaj had the worst (but most memorable) performance of the night as she debuted her new single “Roman Holiday” with crazed Catholic-inspired production.
Even though Adele was the lady of the night, rock band Foo Fighters also won big, taking home Best Rock Album for Wasting Light. Kanye West, while not present, also scored big with three wins including Best Rap Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
