December 30, 2011 § 1 Comment

As 2011 comes to a close with only two days to spare, I’ve taken the time to look back at all the music highlights from this year! This is my most jam-packed post of the year, so get ready!

Check out my favorite picks below:

Hip-Hop Song of the Year: “Lost Ones” by J. Cole

Rock Song of the Year: “Switchblade Smiles” by Kasabian

2011 MVP: Rihanna

From her smash album Loud, to her year-long Loud Tour, her endorsement deals with Nivea and Vita Coco, her perfume deal, endless features on songs, her current album Talk That Talk as well as shooting her first film, Bajan popstar Rihanna took 2011 by the horns and never let go!

Best Newcomer: Tyler the Creator

Even after munching on roaches and jokingly preaching the Devil, Tyler, The Creator caught the eyes of everyone. His sophomore effort Goblin was one of the dopest albums of the year, even giving the LA rapper a a VMA for “Best New Artist”!

Most Underrated Artist: The Weeknd

The mysterious Canadian R&B artist gave us three killer mixtapes this year that were all critically acclaimed and gave new rise to the term “PBR&B”. I think 2012 will be The Weeknd’s year.

Most Overrated Artist: Katy Perry

Where WASN’T Katy Perry in 2011?! Her third studio album Teenage Dream birthed six singles that all went to number one and stayed there for weeks. Perry even snabbed the spot for most #1 singles from….Michael Jackson. Who does that?!

Most Underrated Song: “Inside Out” by Britney Spears

Most Overrated Song: Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO

Most Controversial Video: “Monster” by Kanye West

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Video of the Year: “We Found Love” by Rihanna

Song of the Year: “Niggas in Paris” by The Throne

Top 5 Albums of the Year:

5.  The Weeknd – House of Balloons

4. Lady Gaga – Born This Way

3.  The Throne – Watch The Throne

2. The Kills – Blood Pressures

1. Beyoncé – 4

OMG! Moment of ’11: Beyoncé’s Pregnancy/Amy Winehouse’s Death
