Rihanna Releases Video for “We Found Love”

Bajan Pop princess Rihanna finally released the video for her chart-topping new single, “We Found Love” off her soon to be released sixth album Talk That Talk.
The visually stunning video tells a destructive story of two people in a tumultuous relationship who want to get out but can’t find the courage to through drugs, parties, alcohol, lust and deceit. Rihanna, accompanied by British boxer Dudley O’ Shaughnessy, are believable as a couple as they struggle with mending their unhealthy relationship. The Melina Matsoukas-directed video takes influence from cult movies like “Requiem for a Dream” and “Drugstore Cowboy”, as well as everyday references like the ever-ubiquitous Tumblr hipsters. The heavy visuals were unexpected, as “We Found Love” is such a light-hearted dance track. But in the end, a story was told through the eyes of someone who has lived through a similar situation.
It is refreshing to see an artist boldly step out of their comfort zone and bring back art into music videos. It is without a doubt Rihanna’s best video to date (with “Man Down” coming in close). If the “We Found Love” video is any implication of what’s to come from this Rihanna era, then Talk That Talk is bound to blow us all away.
