Resort 2012 Fashion Week: My Top 4

June 29, 2011 § Leave a comment

It’s always fun to experience and watch shows during Fall and Spring fashion weeks, but what does one do when the shows are over? That’s where Resort/Cruise collections come in! These collections fill in the void for fashion shows once the big seasons are over. Displaying clothing fit for exotic vacations and summer cocktail parties, the Resort season provides buyers & customers with practical clothing that can be enjoyed before the Spring/Summer season rushes in come September!

This Resort 2012 season was incredibly strong; it took me forever to pick just four collections. The looks were bold, fresh, colorfully printed, modern, and fun! I wish I could review all the collections, but you wouldn’t want to read all that 😛

So, I present to you my top 4 Resort collections!

4. Versace – New York

Donatella Versace is a master when it comes to bold prints and sexy silhouettes, and this Resort collection highlights just that. I like this collection because of the usage of black and white, while adding bright splotches of color. The contrast of girly shapes and darkly abstract prints makes for an interesting collection.

3. Celine – New York

Even though Phoebe Philo obviously look influences from other designers (ie. floral prints a la Balenciaga), I still find this collection fresh and very Parisian cool. I really appreciate how the bold design and prints remained focused on the body, thanks to the clean lines and classic tailoring. The mussed-up hair brings down the collection as well, making it more approachable.

2. Theyskens’ Theory – New York

This Resort collection is the definition of cool! From the open runway setting to the modern styling details, Theyskens’ Theory’s Resort collection perfects and redefines the young modern city girl. I love the way the collection was presented; it looks like a confident woman casually strolling down the sidewalk of a big international city! Every single piece in the collection is wearable throughout the year, which is a definite plus for buyers & customers! Those 80’s-style mirror sunglasses are killer too; I have a feeling they will be a key trend for the upcoming seasons!

1. Gucci – New York

I swear I’m not being biased here (I’ve LOVED this fashion house since I was 14) but Gucci’s Resort 2012 collection was so spot-on! Pushing the blatant Balenciaga/Chloe/Givenchy references aside, the clothing defines the elegant woman of today. The gold accents, the color-blocking, the layering, the hair; it can all be attributed and personalized for all women around the world. I like the fact that Frida Giannini toned down the overt sexiness of Gucci, and made a collection that is simple, refined, and luxurious. It’s a different side of Gucci that many will love to see!
